A new promotional image of the upcoming classic Sonic the Hedgehog collection, Sonic Origins, has surfaced today following months of apparent silence from SEGA.

The image, originally tipped by LordDagak on Twitter, showcased a number of Sonic characters rendered in the famous “classic” style, alongside with a new logo for the upcoming game.

A back search suggested that PlayStation uploaded the image to their content delivery network some time ago. There are no details about the picture’s upload date or intent, like if it corresponded to an upcoming article or game listing.

In addition to a discovery by TanookiKuribo on Twitter, Tails’ Channel has learned that the image’s artwork was used on a generic promotional Sonic advertisement. The ad appeared on the April issue of Licence Global, a trade publication.

On the weekend, it was reported that Origins received a ratings classification by South Korean classifiers. The committee gave it a “suitable for all ages” designation, alongside with an “action” descriptor.

The lack of substantive updates following Origins‘ initial announcement in 2021 created fears by some in the community of an apparent cancellation. Sonic Official’s Katie Chrzanowski reassured fans on Twitter that the collection is still very well in development.

Sonic Origins is a collection of classic titles, like Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. The collection is expected to be released in 2022.
