Voice actor Roger Craig Smith confirmed Wednesday afternoon that he will return to his role as the English voice-over of SEGA’s mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog.
The news comes after the announcement of an official broadcast for the hedgehog’s 30th anniversary, which will be televised Thursday afternoon.
“Can’t wait for ya to see what we have planned,” said Smith in a tweet published today. The actor did not disclose any further detail about his return.
Earlier this year, Smith announced he was stepping down from his role. The reason why he decided to do so at that moment is unclear, although he has hinted before during a podcast interview that he decided to walk away from the role. Also unknown is the reason that brought him back to the role.
Community and fan reaction
Reaction of those involved with SEGA and fans has been hugely supportive to Roger’s return, with a lot of excitement involving him voicing Sonic for the 30th anniversary game.
