Sonic Origins to adapt select prototype Sonic 3 soundtracks, Senoue confirmed to compose

After a year of speculation, fans now have their answers on what will be done regarding the soundtrack of Sonic 3 in Sonic Origins.

Following the unveiling of Sonic Origins in 2021, one of the biggest questions was how the soundtrack of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 would be dealt with in the classic collection.

When asked about the situation regarding the soundtrack, Sonic Studio’s Katie Chrzanowski confirmed that select music made for the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 prototype will be used instead. SEGA’s Jun Senoue was also confirmed to be adapting the music for Origins.

It was also added that Senoue will be using the same soundchip from the SEGA Mega Drive, and to use his own digital tape collection to make the music as faithful to the original 1994 game as possible.

It was known that part of Sonic 3‘s songs were composed not only by Brad Buxer and the SEGA sound team, but by late musician Michael Jackson as well. It was presumed for decades that the songs have found themselves in a vague copyright limbo.

Sonic Origins is expected to be released 23 June 2022 for current and next-generation PlayStation and Xbox platforms, Nintendo Switch, and on PC via Epic Games Store and Steam.
