Update: First new details on Sonic Origins uncovered in storefront listings

New listings tease a “re-defined” Classic Sonic experience.

SEGA officially announced Sonic Origins, a brand new collection of classic Sonic titles with a “fresh twist.”

With the standard version priced for $39.99, SEGA aimed to reign in an unparalleled experience by introducing remastered titles of Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles, and CD.

Earlier this morning

Before the game was officially announced early Wednesday, fans learned the first new details about the upcoming classic collection via an online storefront.

A PlayStation Store listing reportedly published in the Australia and New Zealand regions described Origins as a “re-defined” classic experience, with new unlockables, an “anniversary mode”, and additional animations.

Classic Sonic Re-Defined

Relive the classic collected adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD in the newly remastered Sonic Origins! From the iconic Green Hill Zone to the treacherous Death Egg Robot, you’ll speed down memory lane to thwart the sinister plans of Doctor Robotnik in polished high definition! This latest version includes new areas to explore, additional animations, and a brand new Anniversary mode!

  • Classic Re-defined: Explore the classic Sonic titles in high-resolution, with all-new opening and ending animations for each title!
  • New Unlockables: Complete various missions to collect coins to unlock new content, challenges, and Special Stages through the Museum.
  • Classic and Anniversary Mode: Choose to Spin Dash your way through the numerous zones in Classic mode with the game’s original resolution and limited lives, or the new Anniversary mode with unlimited lives and revamped fullscreen resolution.

Sonic Origins will be released during Sonic’s birthday, 23 June 2022 on the Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox platforms, as well as on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
