It’s official: Social media accounts for the Sonic the Hedgehog brand were launched for the audiences in Brazil and Latin America.
Profiles for Sonic the Hedgehog in Portuguese and Spanish began to pop up on Twitter as early as Wednesday morning. However, some fans began to question on social media if the accounts were legitimate, as they were all activated without any verification or acknowledgement from SEGA at the time.
Sonic the Hedgehog’s social media manager Katie Chrzanowski later clarified that the accounts were real. The brand’s global reach was cited as the primary reason for the launch, though they are still under a verification process on many social media platforms, including Twitter.
Who are running the accounts?
Since SEGA does not have have a physical presence in South America, the company instead reportedly licenced the new Sonic accounts to Theogames, a communications and content creation company made of veterans in the video game industries of Brazil and Latin America.
