Sonic Movie nominated in three categories for Critics Choice Super Awards

The Sonic movie was nominated for three categories in the brand new Critics Choice Super Awards.

Despite losing to Pixar’s Onward for best family film in last Sunday’s People’s Choice Awards, the Sonic the Hedgehog film has a second chance to be honoured with an accolade.

The Critics Choice Association has announced the inaugural Critics Choice Super Awards, a new ceremony that will aim to celebrate niche categories like sci-fi, horror and animation.

[…] A special event honoring the most popular, fan-obsessed genres across both television and movies, including Superhero, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Horror, Action and Animation.

Is Sonic a superhero film?

The Sonic movie’s designation as a superhero film has been widely discussed online after it became the highest-grossing superhero film of the year, mainly due to COVID-19 disruptions in the film industry.

The Association has since clarified that the superhero categories will incorporate “comic book and video game inspired movies,” which included Sonic the Hedgehog.

The winners of the awards ceremony will be announced in a special television presentation, hosted by director and podcaster Kevin Smith and actress Dani Fernandez.

The inaugural Critics Choice Super Awards will air on 10 January 2021 at 8:00 PM Eastern on The CW.

  1. Jeez, is that the competition? I can at least see Jim Carrey winning the award for best villain easy.
