Rumoured Sonic the Hedgehog 3 early synopsis from trade publication not consistent with current plans: sources

A film industry publication’s claims about Sonic the Hedgehog 3 were not consistent with details about the movie’s present direction, sources told Tails’ Channel.

The 10 August 2022 issue of Production Weekly claimed that the highly anticipated video game movie has entered a state of “active development”, and disclosed what appeared to be an early, provisional synopsis.

Following an initial scoop from Spanish outlet Sonic Paradise late Monday, Tails’ Channel reached out to the editor of Production Weekly, and to sources close to the movie’s production that helped corroborate reports in the past, to clarify the veracity of the synopsis.

Two sources, who were verified but spoke under the condition of anonymity, told Tails’ Channel that the synopsis was incorrect, and not indicative of Paramount’s current plans for the upcoming theatrical release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Production Weekly, a trade publication that specializes in providing production information, has not responded to requests for comment.

Spoilers: It contains content that may reduce suspense for followers of the subject matter.

With Sonic, Tails and Knuckles having defeated Robotnik and his Badniks, Green Hills is saved! But it wasn’t over yet.

The Team will have to face what Robotnik’s grandfather has created, Project Shadow. Things go from bad to worse when Robotnik obtains the Mini Emeralds from the destroyed Chaos Emerald, and creates his robotic version of Sonic, which will be used for the scientist to get his sinister revenge!

Teaming up with Shadow, they intend to defeat the Hedgehog once and for all. Through a dimensional portal, different creatures, Amy and Big, show up to help.

Could this team defeat Robotnik before the world comes to an end?

Avid fans and followers of the movie series reacted to early reports from Tails’ Channel, Sonic Stadium and Sonic Paradise with interest and confusion on social media. Some reacted with excitement at the prospect of new characters in the film, while others perceived the plotline as “overbloated,” or “contradictory.”

Paramount has yet to respond to an inquiry for comment, although the film company has promised a release date around December 2024.
