Sonic movie sequel makes over $230M worldwide after second weekend, number one domestic film on Easter Monday

The numbers are out, and Sonic is still performing well in the box office.

To the delight of fans all around the world, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 continued to provide a strong box office performance.

The sequel during its second domestic weekend made $29 million, which is still seen by box office analysts as a “strong” performance, despite dropping 58% to a second-place position. With that said, the Hedgehog managed to out-do the wizarding Fantastic Beasts sequel, which took the top spot during the weekend, the following Easter Monday. Sonic 2 brought in $4 million, while picking up the number one spot once more.

At the moment, Sonic 2 has made $123 million in domestic territories. The numbers are also better when compared to the second domestic weekend of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, and beat the original’s Monday numbers by 275%,

Internationally, the movie sequel fared to a $25 million weekend performance, bringing the total of the movie to $235 million. Overall, outside of the domestic territories, the movie has performed the strongest in the United Kingdom ($16 million), Australia ($9.2 million), France ($9 million), Mexico ($8.1 million) and Brazil ($4 million).

There are some countries left for the blue speedster to debut, such as China and Japan, so the numbers are expected to rise and eventually succeed the record set by the 2020 film.
