Nearly $70 million projected for Sonic movie sequel opening weekend, made over $25 million on Friday

Box office numbers for the previews of the movie were released, and Sonic is once more at the top.

With strong momentum overseas, the Sonic movie sequel debuted to strong numbers and expectations in preview screenings in the domestic territories.

Friday’s showtimes brought in $26.5 million for Sonic, moving the opening weekend projection once more to around $67 to $69 million.

Yesterday, it was confirmed that the sequel generated a total of $6.25 million in the early Wednesday fan screenings and Thursday showtimes. $5 million was generated on Thursday alone, nearly double the amount compared to the Thursday earnings of the 2020 Sonic film.

With these estimates, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is on track to beat the studio’s initial weekend projections of $50 million, and to surpass its predecessor’s $58 million 3-day total.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is now out on movie theatres.
