Tentative Sonic movie sequel synopsis published in U.S. copyright office catalogue

A synopsis for the sequel of the highly successful Sonic movie was sighted on a copyright catalogue.

Another big reveal related to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has come to light thanks to the United States Copyright Office’s public catalogue.

The patent was filed by Paramount Pictures on 9 April and in it, a synopsis for the the sequel of the highly anticipated video game movie was sighted.

After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands. Being directed by Jeff Fowler, and starring Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Ben Schwartz.

Details from the plot, such as the inclusion of Knuckles, were confirmed by leaks related to the production of the movie.

It is also worth remembering that possible changes to the story could have been made since then. The patent for the original Sonic the Hedgehog movie mentioned a Lizard Warrior that never came to fruition.
