Colleen O’Shaughnessey not voicing Tails in upcoming “Sonic Prime” animation

The franchise’s voice-over of Miles “Tails” Prower will not have a role in the upcoming 2022 animated series.

Voice actress Colleen O’Shaughnessey, the franchise voice of Miles “Tails” Prower, confirmed late Monday that she will not voice Tails in the upcoming Netflix animation, Sonic Prime.

The American voice actress made the surprise announcement on Twitter in a reply to a fan who inquired about her role in the upcoming series. Without decoration, O’Shaughnessey replied, “No.”

It is still early to determine who will voice whom in the Wildbrain-produced series, though the vacancy is expected to spark speculation on the state of the Sonic voice-acting cast and their role in Sonic Prime, especially after the sudden departure of Roger Craig Smith from his long-time voice-over role as Sonic the Hedgehog.

O’Shaughnessey made her debut as the voice of Tails in 2014, beginning with the Sonic Boom animated series. She also voiced Tails’ cameo in the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film, but it is unknown if she will reprise her role in the 2022 sequel.

O’Shaughnessey is projected to continue voicing Tails in the mainline series.
