SEGA’s parent company briefly commented on the current video game landscape, as the Sonic the Hedgehog game series performed once more to expectations.
Sonic on the top
As of the third quarter of fiscal year 2022, the Sonic game series accumulated a total of 4.9 million units so far, up by two million compared to the previous quarter. When compared to the numbers from the same period last fiscal period, the current year beats the previous by an additional 1.2 million units.

The titles that contributed to these numbers were not specified, but it is to be believed that the release of Sonic Colours Ultimate was a big factor that helped the series increase its’ numbers.
Games everywhere for everyone
SEGASammy commented on about the diversification of platforms in which users can play their games. The company said that it was something they are keen to keep an eye on, and said that it brought “major changes to the market environment”, and mentioned the “emergence of cloud gaming services”.
With diversified revenue opportunities expected from new business models and services, there has been a growing interest in the revitalization and growth of the game market on a global scale.

The Japanese conglomerate also commented on their amusement machines business, that, while it originally showed a trend of recovery to the level before the spread of COVID-19, the new Omicron variant has been a source of concern. The corporation said that they will analyse the consequences it might bring.
