The Sonic the Hedgehog video game series once again contributed to SEGASammy’s strong Consumer-area performance for the second quarter of fiscal year 2022.
The blue blur sold 1.9 million unit sales this fiscal quarter, which added to a cumulative total of 2.9 million units so far. The number is a considerable increase of nearly 26 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year when the series totalled sales of 2.3 million.
Series | This quarter (FY2022 – Q2) | The same quarter last year (FY2021 – Q2) |
---|---|---|
Sonic the Hedgehog | 2.9 million | 2.3 million |
Yakuza | 1.8 million | 600 thousand |
Total War | 1 million | 2.5 million |
Persona | 700 thousand | 1.5 million |
The financial summary, which accounted for 40 per cent of Consumer-area sales, were tabulated between July to September 2021. It meant that Sonic’s latest numbers included partial unit sales of September’s Sonic Colours Ultimate on top of repeat sales of previous Sonic titles.
The advance of digitalization has brought major changes to the market environment, such as the expansion of download sales for PCs, home video game consoles, etc., the emergence of cloud gaming services, and the diversification of platforms.
Furthermore, with diversified revenue opportunities expected from new business models and services, there has been a growing interest in the revitalization and growth of the game market on a global scale
SEGASammy Holdings
With the upward trend, SEGASammy expects the consumer division to exceed the forecasted tabulations due in part “to the continuing strong performance of both new and repeat titles in full games,” though advertising and development expenses are projected to increase as well.
