“A dream come true”: Sonic 1 & 2 composer Masato Nakamura talks about his soundtracks in the Sonic movie sequel

Masato Nakamura expressed how overjoyed he was to have his song featured in a Hollywood production.

Masato Nakamura, composer for Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), has expressed how overjoyed he was for having his soundtrack featured in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel.

When composing for the first two main Sonic games, Nakamura professed how he made the soundtrack with a vibe similar to what one could hear in a movie, and now, with his compositions being used in a Hollywood production, he went to his blog to share his excitement.

One of my compositions, “Emerald Hill Zone” will be used in the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” which will come out in 2022.

When I composed the music for “Sonic the Hedgehog 1&2”, I tried to write a soundtrack for the movie. I imagined the game like a movie.

After 30 years later, my music for the game becomes a part of the movie soundtrack of “Sonic the Hedgehog”. Literally, it’s a dream comes true.

Nakamura also highlighted that that the music from Emerald Hill Zone, a Sonic the Hedgehog 2 level, will also be used in the movie, not only in last week’s teaser.

A piano rendition of Green Hill Zone was used in the first Sonic movie, and now fans will have to wait and see how Emerald Hill Zone will be used in the sequel.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the sequel to the highly successful 2020 film, Sonic the Hedgehog. The filming for it is expected to begin on 15 March in British Columbia, Canada, with a domestic release date aimed for 8 April 2022.
