Sonic to be promoted from multiple angles in 2024, says SEGA’s Takashi Iizuka in year-end remarks

In an interview with Famitsu in a game developer series of articles, SEGA creative officer Takashi Iizuka gave his thoughts about the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise in 2023, as well as his hopes for the blue blur in 2024.

2024 Keyword: Transmedia

This [coming] year will see the release of new [Sonic Prime] episodes on Netflix, as well as the third film! We want to promote Sonic from multiple angles.

Transmedia is a broad term, but in Sega’s context, it refers to promoting the brand across multiple mediums, be it in games, films, cartoons, or merch. While Iizuka’s hint for the next year was (naturally) vague, it reminds us of Sonic’s incoming ventures outside games. We are yet to see what else lies in store for Sonic fans across the globe in 2024.

2023 Recap

In 2023, we focused on the theme of “Friends”, the addition of Amy to Sonic Origins Plus, the release of the third update to Sonic Frontiers, adding a playable story for 3 characters, and the release of the 4-player game Sonic Superstars. Did you guys enjoy that?

Have you had the chance to play Sonic Superstars? We hope you enjoy Sonic’s multiplayer experience by gathering with family & friends this holiday season. Sonic Dream Team is now available on Apple Arcade too.

Acknowledging Sonic’s releases in the past year, Iizuka encourages readers to play the most recent Sonic releases over the holidays.
