Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik performance wins Best Villain in inaugural Critics Choice Super Awards

The Blue Blur finally has an theatrical award to brag about… and it’s all thanks to his arch-nemesis, Doctor Robotnik.

Actor Jim Carrey has won ‘Best Villain in a Movie’ in the inaugural Critics Choice Super Awards for his performance of Doctor Robotnik in Paramount’s live-action/CGI hit movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, late Sunday.

The Canadian-American comedian and writer bested six other nominees to win the category.

Carrey, alongside with actor Ben Schwartz (who voiced the titular character Sonic the Hedgehog), were nominated for ‘Best Actor in a Superhero Movie’. They both lost to Ewan McGregor for his performance as Black Mask in the superhero flick Birds of Prey.

The Sonic film had another opportunity to snag an award. This time, it was a nomination for ‘Best Superhero Movie’. It too was bested by Netflix’s The Old Guard.

Last year, the film was nominated, but did not win, in the People’s Choice Awards for ‘Best Family Film’ and in the SXSW Film Festival via a title sequence competition.
