SEGA has unveiled Banana Rumble, the next major entry in the Super Monkey Ball video game series early Wednesday.
Curiously, the game introduces a new “Spin Dash” move, sharing a name with Sonic the Hedgehog’s iconic move.
Banana Rumble will includes a new four-player local co-op mode available for play across the game’s 200 stages, and a 16-player online battle mode, which is sure to bring endless rolling fun.
“Customize your character from over 300 options, roll out across more than 200 stages, launch past rivals with the new Spin Dash move, play with friends in an all-new co-op Adventure Mode, and for the first time in series history 16 players can tilt their way to victory online,” read the official press release.
It was also set to include a “SEGA character pack” as downloadable content; however, the six characters and 15 customization items included were not revealed.
Meanwhile, the official Asian website unveiled more information about the upcoming game, as detailed below.
Game modes
- Battle Mode: A new game mode where you can face off against up to 15 players online.
- Race: A variety of courses filled with gimmicks to trip you up. The first player to the goal wins!
- Banana Hunt: Collect the most bananas before the timer runs out to be crowned the winner!
- Robot Smash: Ram into robots to smash them into smithereens! Can you smash the high score?
Adventure mode
Roll your way to the goal within the time limit! Featuring 200 New Stages! Up to 4 players can use one Nintendo Switch console to play. Online mode also allows up to 4 players to play together!
Spin dash
Move at high speeds and leap onto platforms to take on various stages! Send your rivals flying and claim victory!
Costumes
A wide selection of Costume Items is available! Personalize your character with over 300 Costume Items!
Characters
Monkey around with a wide selection of characters! A new character, Palette, joins the bunch!
Physical release
The corresponding physical release of Banana Rumble will also feature the “Legendary Banana Edition,” which will soon be available for pre-order.
Players will get the base game with a reversible cover and slipcase, an exclusive digital “Banana Costume” DLC, and an exclusive physical art book.
The 40-page physical art book will be “filled with details about all the characters and worlds you will encounter on your journey and is packed to the brim with sketches and other behind-the-scenes artwork.”
This new installment in the series was developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, headed by veteran Masayoshi Yokoyama. The studio was also behind previous entry Banana Mania.
The game will launch as a Nintendo Switch exclusive on 25 June 2024. Players can pre-order now via the eShop.
