Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine were among the classic SEGA titles confirmed to appear in a new “expansion pass” for Nintendo Switch’s online service, company executive Yoshiaki Koizumi confirmed in a video presentation late Thursday.
Fans will be able to access a collection of Nintendo 64 and SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis games in a new membership plan named Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. It will include the ability to play select titles with online gameplay up to four players, and to access the growing library of titles from the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

At a later date, online members will be able to pre-order brand-new working wireless replicas of the original Nintendo 64 and SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis controllers. For $49.99 USD each, the controllers are optional and, for SEGA’s case, will differ based on region. North Americans and Europeans will only get their own three-button variants, while Japan will only get their six-button variant.
