Following rumours from late September that seemingly hinted Sonic’s return, the American retailer confirmed to Tails’ Channel’s contributor that the blue blur will indeed fly in the Manhattan skies. According to the official website, his appearance will formally commemorate the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Everyone’s favorite blue blur is back! Sonic the Hedgehog, the first-ever video game character to appear in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, dashes through the streets of New York City once again to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise.

The return will mark the hedgehog’s ninth appearance in the parade, his first appearance since 2013 to promote Sonic Lost World, and 10 years since the debut of the modern Sonic caricature.

His debut in 1993 gained infamy over the years following an incident that saw a lamp post destroy the balloon, injuring an off-duty police officer and a 10-year old girl. Both were discharged the same day without any serious injuries.

Despite the occurrence, the hedgehog returned to following parades until 1997. Sonic later came back in his modern form in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

The announcement corroborated rumours of a Sonic balloon allegedly under construction at a parade studio in New York City. Tails’ Channel reached out to the person who uploaded a short video of it on Instagram, but did not receive a reply.

Sonic’s return to the parade was met with excitement from fans and talent involved with the series. Voice actor Ben Schwartz even expressed excitement about the hedgehog’s return.

I will be inside this float singing the green hill zone theme for the entire parade.

This will be one of the many events this year in which the Sonic series was showcased. The soundtrack of Star Light Zone was recently featured in the opening ceremony of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

The 95th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place on 25 November. American viewers can watch it on NBC beginning at 9:00 am Eastern Time. Tails’ Channel will also provide continuous coverage.
