A social media user known for sharing unannounced Sonic the Hedgehog and SEGA information attempted to challenge rumours about a remake of the 2004 platformer Sonic Heroes late Monday, and said that the idea was merely “considered” by SEGA.
The clarification was issued by Twitter user MbKKssTBhz5, known as “Midori” to followers, after a rumour initially suggested that SEGA was actively developing Heroes on the Unreal Engine for a release as early as 2026.
The seemingly apparent contradiction spurred a strong reaction amongst Sonic fans on Twitter. Midori, who later disclosed an apparent “breach of trust” with another individual, later announced their resignation from the site formerly known as Twitter late Wednesday afternoon.
The insider also claimed that SEGA wanted most of their franchises to transition to Unreal Engine 5, with in-house engines like Hedgehog Engine 2 to be considered at a case-by-case basis.
Midori has recently shared information on many SEGA properties, including downloadable content for Persona 3 Reload, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and Virtua Fighter, with cases such as the Persona 3 Reload DLC being officially confirmed shortly after.
The rumour and subsequent challenge came after the community’s attempt to find hints of a potential Heroes remaster last year.
The insider’s claims have not been verified by Tails’ Channel, and SEGA has yet to issue an official comment.
