A social media account kicked off speculation about a new untitled Sonic the Hedgehog mobile game late Tuesday, and claimed that the untitled app may launch later this year.
Midori, an online personality focused on the Persona series, claimed on the site formerly known as Twitter that the rumoured Sonic spin-off title was inspired by the free-to-play battle royale Fall Guys, and aimed for a cross-platform launch on iOS and Android devices.
In contrast to previous Sonic mobile titles, the new game was rumoured not to be another SEGA HARDlight project, as the British studio was reportedly planned to produce post-launch content for the Apple Arcade-exclusive Sonic Dream Team.
Tails’ Channel cannot confirm the claims made by Midori, and SEGA has yet to corroborate the rumour.
Meanwhile, SEGA and its partners are preparing a slate of major initiatives for the blue blur in 2024, as part of the publisher’s “transmedia” push of existing and classic properties. Sonic specifically will continue to collaborate with numerous brands this year; and release a slate of new media, like December’s theatrical release of Sonic 3.
