Former Sonic the Hedgehog writers Warren Graff and Ken Pontac attempted to clarify the record about their time at SEGA on social media recently, and said that they had “very little say” over the storytelling decisions for the franchise.
In a post on Twitter, also known as X, Graff spoke about his time writing for Sonic whilst correcting the usual assumption that “Sonic being written the way he was for the past decade, was all because of Pontac and Graff.”
Correction, Ken and I wrote a million drafts for each game. Each draft got a ton of character and story notes from Sega/Sonic Team. Every word we wrote, every character trait, and every story point was given to us by them or based on the Sonic Game Bible. We had very little say.

Ken then replies, expressing his frustration on how he’s been saying “for years” how the writing fans didn’t really like wasn’t on them, they were just following SEGA / Sonic Team’s orders.
Hahahahaha! Glad you managed to explain after all these years, Warren. I’ve been a broken record about this, but nobody listened to me.
Ken Pontac
Pontac and Graff were brought on to write the stories for the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series, starting with Sonic Colours, all the way until their last project, Team Sonic Racing.
The names are infamous around the more hardcore side of the Sonic community, due to a perceived irreverent style of storytelling.
